   log file

     In the context of |project|, a log file is a file into which
     entries are stored for later processing or replay. Entries often
     correspond to :term:`events <event>` exchanged between components
     of :term:`event`-based systems.

   channel

     In the context of |project|, a channel is container within a
     :term:`log file` into which a subset of all entries of the
     :term:`log file` are stored based on a criterion such as the data
     type.
